We do not have words for a day like this. We do not have words to describe this cavernous, staggering silence that we're left with now. We do not have words for this emptiness in our hearts. We do not have words to fill that space in a mother's arms, on a father's shoulders. For a child's light now shines only in our hearts. We peer out through tearful eyes at a world we wish was not so. We do not have words for days like this. We all struggle to understand, to go on, to start talking again. Some of us will fall short of the profound unreachable solemnity required of us this day, will blunder trying to find words to understand and to heal. Forgive them. All our words are inadequate today. We don't have words, except this: Love. That is all we will have, not justice, not meaning, not resolution. Only love, even when that feels as though it is not enough. I am thankful for life, shared. I pray for all victims of violence, seen and unseen, that they find peace, that we may heal the broken hearted.
